Lost or found a pet?
Most pets are reunited within the first few days, acting fast makes all the difference. Here's exactly what to do.
Start here: Petco Love Lost (free)
Upload a photo and its facial-recognition matches lost and found pets across the country, the fastest free way to find or report a pet. Takes two minutes.
Search & post a photo →I lost my pet
- 1. Post a photo to Petco Love Lost and mark your pet as lost.
- 2. Search local “Lost & Found Pets” Facebook groups for Cabell/Wayne County and post there.
- 3. Call the county animal shelter and nearby vets, strays are often turned in there.
- 4. If your pet is microchipped, call the chip company to flag it lost and confirm your contact info.
- 5. Put out familiar-smelling items near where they went missing, and search at dawn/dusk when it's quiet.
I found a pet
- 1. Check for a collar & tag, many reunions happen with one phone call.
- 2. Have a vet or shelter scan for a microchip (free, takes a minute).
- 3. Post the found pet on Petco Love Lost and local Facebook groups.
- 4. Tell us, we'll help you figure out next steps and whether we can take the animal in.
A quick honest note: ASAP is a small foster-based rescue with no facility, so we can't hold every stray, but we'll always help you find the right resource. The steps above reunite the large majority of pets on their own.
